Why The Standard?

The Standard was created for a simple reason: independent journalism is being quashed. Across the world we are seeing journalism outfits fall silent under the heavy hand of power, be that state power, ownership exchanges, or political shifts. The Standard will be a vanguard against that. 

We report on the news, as it happens, and go beyond the headlines to ask the questions that actually matter. The why. We live in an ever changing world, one where a by-election can determine the future leader of a G7 economy, and a war can determine the political fortunes of incumbents world-over. 

We pledge that The Standard will never be captured, and will never be overrun by corporate interests. Journalistic independence and freedom to report without fear or favor will be our driving force. The Standard is a publication for people who care about the world, and the ideas that drive it.
